California Gov. Brown Bashed Trump and Refused Federal Aid…But Now? He’d Really Like Some Federal Aid Please.

The Blaze   –  Supporters of President Donald Trump are mocking the governor of California for requesting aid from the Trump administration just weeks after bashing the president and his policies.

The Associated Press reported that Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown requested federal disaster assistance after strong rains threatened to cause a flooding following a dam spillway failure:

Gov. Jerry Brown is asking the Trump administration for federal assistance in responding to a potential failure of a spillway at the Oroville Dam in Northern California.

In a letter to President Donald Trump released Monday, Brown asks for help for the three Northern California counties affected.

Brown says aid is needed to assist the 188,000 residents of Butte, Sutter and Yuba counties who were ordered to evacuate Sunday after concerns an emergency spillway could give way, unleashing a gush of water to downstream towns.
The governor had in the weeks prior attacked Trump, proclaiming that “California is not turning back” in reference to the president’s border security and immigration policies.

His defiant stance elicited praise from liberal news outlets like Mother Jones, which saw him as an “alternative president”:

It’s almost as if the man who once ran for the White House himself were taking a stand as a kind of alternative president. In his annual State of the State address on Tuesday, California Gov. Jerry Brown reiterated a vision for the nation’s most populous state that was thoroughly at odds with the Trump administration. He pledged to continue inking California’s own climate agreements with other states and countries, to fight for the Affordable Care Act, and to “defend everybody — every man, woman, and child — who has come here for a better life and has contributed to the well-being of our state.
But that praise is being overwhelmed by a flood of mocking memes and snarky tweets from Trump supporters who are taking glee in the governor now “begging” for help from Trump.

Contrary to many memes being passed around social media mocking Trump critics’ “not my president” movement on Twitter, Brown has never made such a comment publicly.

Other commentators mocking Brown were sure to bring up the bill being considered by the California legislature to apply “sanctuary city” policies to the entire state to defy Trump’s order against cities protecting illegal aliens from immigration law.

The spillway at the Oroville Dam did not fail as had been feared, but a downpour of rain is forecast that will threaten again the 200,000 residents who are in the path of the flood that would ensue.

Trump approved the federal relief funds to California Tuesday.
